Ubuntu: I Am Because We Are

"We say in our African idiom,
'A person is a person through other persons.' The solitary human being is a contradiction in terms."

- Archbishop Desmond Tutu

Social Activities

UU's love to have fun, on that we all agree. But what's fun for one, may not be for another. So, we offer many diverse social events throughout the church year... 2nd Sunday Potlucks, Bookreaders, Game Nights, the Service Auction, occasional Flea Markets, book sales and I-Care Days.

Here is a photo of our trip to Columcille, in the Poconos. Bernadette L-S offered it as an auction item. It was fabulous! Columcille is a retreat center where folks can go and commune with nature. There are many different areas within the property for individuals to go to meditate or hold ceremonies. There is even a small chapel where weddings and other events are held. We went on the day of the full moon and toured the grounds, learned a bit about its history and enjoyed being in the woods for a few hours before returning to Philadelphia.

Drum Circle was great! We learned a lot about rhythm and played on the shakers and the drums. Then the leader taught us some samba call and response and breaks and we got to jam for a bit.

Bring a friend to the Book Sale! The book sales honor-library is always available with a long list of titles for all ages and interests. Check it out!

The Holiday Bargain Shoppe fills the social hall three Sundays in December, with a wide array of donated gift items at unbelievably moderate prices!

Game Nights are held about once a month on a Friday night. Board games are available or you are welcome to bring your own. Check the online newsletter to see if a game night is scheduled.
